The Lander & Rogers Superannuation Alert is a brief overview of new developments in the superannuation industry and is in addition to our Superannuation Update, which analyses the main developments of interest in more detail.
- On 13 February 2013, the Victorian Assistant Treasurer announced that the Government will be introducing legislation to provide for the management of the Parliamentary Contributory Superannuation Scheme to be transferred to the Emergency Services Superannuation Board.
- On 14 February 2013, the following Bills were referred to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services for report:
Submissions for these Bills close on 1 March 2013 and the inquiry is scheduled to report by 18 March 2013.
- On 21 February 2013, APRA released their December 2012 Quarterly Superannuation Performance publication which estimates that total superannuation assets increased by 14.6% to $1.51 trillion over the 12 months to December 2012.
- ASIC has announced the first registration of an SMSF auditor occurred on 1 February 2013 and that a total of 65 registrations have been completed. ASIC has recommended that applications be lodged by 30 April 2013 to provide adequate time for processing by 30 June 2013.
