Bulletin - Autumn 2016

Workplace Relations & Safety Bulletin - 20 May 2016

Welcome to the Autumn 2016 edition of the Bulletin.

2016 is shaping up to be a big year in employment law with the looming Federal election likely to generate significant debate regarding our industrial relations framework.  Late last year, the Productivity Commission released its long-awaited report into Australia's industrial relations system and made a number of recommendations for improvement.

These recommendations are likely to be debated during the course of the year and may ultimately become law as amendments to the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth).  In particular, the debate about weekend penalty rates is likely to be quite prominent.  We will continue to monitor this debate and update you on any legislative developments.

In this edition of the Bulletin we discuss several recent legal developments and potential issues for employers including:

  • the dos and don'ts in workplace investigations
  • risks associated with sham contracting
  • how actions on social media at any time can contribute to bullying in the workplace
  • disciplining employees over safety breaches

and more...
