Editorial policy

Our commitment

Lander & Rogers is a law firm committed to providing practical, commercial legal advice across a broad spectrum of sectors and industries.

We believe that legal services involve more than just the law, and exceptional client experiences are equally important to our clients and to us.

We are committed to providing legal advice that is factual, true, practical and understandable. We aim to provide legal advice that is clear and as comprehensible as possible for our clients and avoid the use of unnecessary legal jargon.

We also recognise that, in addition to guiding clients on legal matters, we also provide insights into business and personal issues that are relevant for our clients. This includes informing clients on updates on legislative changes and covering the topics that are relevant to our clients' businesses and personal circumstances. We aim to provide insights and news that are fact-checked and up to date.

Editorial process

Our insights and news articles are crafted by our lawyers, knowledge lawyers and partners. They monitor current business trends and topics and use court papers and legislative outcomes to guide their writing.

They thoroughly research their topics and are passionate about communicating why the information might be relevant to clients. Wherever possible, they will reference related matters and court decisions.

Legal reporting must always be clear and should be as comprehensive as possible. Our legal advisors are highly trained in describing sources in an article and list citations in the conventional format for citing Australian legal materials which follows the Australian Guide to Legal Citation (AGLC4).

All Lander & Rogers articles are reviewed by lawyers in the first instance. Prior to publication, our marketing and communications team assess the articles for accuracy of citations and ease of understanding. Where possible, we provide links to our legal experts within the article, allowing our readers to easily get in contact with our advisors.

We date our articles and aim to provide links to court documents and citations using the most recent and accurate information possible at the time of publishing.

Fact checking and citations

Lander & Rogers authors have responsibility for checking the facts related to their articles.

We check dates, spelling of names, titles, timelines, numbers and other statistics. We also check links to external websites and ensure that citations are correct and are accurate at the time of publishing.

Where we refer to a person or entity in an article, we will always conflict-check to determine if they are a client. If a current client is mentioned in an article, we seek permission from that client to publish a quote or statement. Client confidentiality is of paramount importance, and we will only publish information about clients that is approved and in the public domain.

We recognise the importance of privacy and the sensitivity of personal information. As legal professionals, we have an inherent legal and ethical duty to maintain the confidentiality of our clients' information, as well as the information of all individuals who engage with our firm. Our privacy policy is an affirmation of this commitment.

Plagiarism and fabrication

The firm's governance framework ensures that our actions and behaviours comply with ethical and regulatory requirements and are aligned with our values.

We have a no-tolerance policy for plagiarism, and our policies - including for AI use - require authors to accurately cite the source of their research.

Use of artificial intelligence

Lander & Rogers has developed an AI Use Policy and has communicated and trained staff in this policy.

The firm encourages partners and staff to experience, understand and experiment with the functionality and capabilities of generative artificial intelligence (AI), while always maintaining high ethical and professional standards and client commitments. AI uses data inputs (Prompts) to generate outputs in response (Output).

Below are guidelines for the responsible use of AI for editorial content at Lander & Rogers. As the nature of AI is constantly evolving, these guidelines may change to reflect latest developments and best practices in the field.

Images

We will avoid publishing AI generated images - either video or still pictures - that appear lifelike.

Accuracy

We will verify and check the accuracy or completeness of the Output using reliable sources. This will help to mitigate the risk of inaccuracies and bias in Output.

Accountability

We will ensure that the Output is reviewed closely by a human before publishing on our website and will exercise common sense and professional independence and judgment to check, using reliable sources.
