David is a commercial disputes lawyer with a particular focus on domestic and cross-border insolvency and restructurings, corporations law matters, and complex commercial disputes.

Having acted for and advised clients in both contentious and non-contentious matters, David's background provides him with the skill and experience to navigate a variety of complex legal issues. David frequently acts for SMEs and large corporations, insolvency practitioners, and officeholders or shareholders of companies.

David is a creative legal thinker, diligent and client-focused, and takes a commercial approach to advising and acting for clients.

Experience

David has experience in various courts across Australia, having run matters in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. David frequently acts for insolvency practitioners, SMEs as well as large corporates, secured and unsecured creditors (including financial institutions and private lenders), and directors of companies.

Some notable matters include:

  • acting for and advising a NASDAQ-listed entity on the voluntary administration and deed of company arrangement of its Australian subsidiary, including in relation to potential claims against third parties
  • acting for an ASX-listed company in defending a contractual dispute arising out of a failed capital raising: Supreme Court of New South Wales, settled
  • acting for a multinational corporation in relation to a dispute arising out of a share purchase agreement
  • acting for Carlisle Homes in its successful appeal of a Supreme Court of Victoria decision concerning an expert determination: Carlisle Homes Pty Ltd v Nexus Office Pty Ltd [2025] VSCA 304
  • acting for the trustee in a bankruptcy seeking to enforce orders regarding the realisation of assets and application of proceeds: Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia
  • acting for trustees in a bankruptcy in long-running litigation involving numerous appeals and interlocutory hearings
  • advising a global engineering company on the voluntary administration and deed of company arrangement of its wholly owned subsidiary
