Since 2010, Katherine has been defending personal injury claims in Queensland for Australian and overseas insurers and corporate clients across a diverse range of industries, including resources, energy, transport, construction, health, retail, and leisure.

Experience

Katherine draws on her broad experience in personal injury matters to identify opportunities for early resolutions and negotiate favourable settlements and where required obtain the necessary evidence to successfully defend claims.

Prior to joining Lander & Rogers in September 2022, Katherine worked for national and Queensland-based insurance firms.

Katherine's areas of expertise include:

  • acting for principal contractors and sub-contractors in multi-party claims where injuries are sustained at refineries, mine sites, and on various sized construction projects
  • defending personal injury claims against airports involving the Civil Aviation (Carrier's Liability) Act 1964 (Qld)
  • defending personal injury claims brought against practitioners and hospitals for failures in treatment provided
  • advising on nervous shock and dependency claims
  • advising on policy coverage, dual insurance and contractual indemnity issues
  • advising on a broad range of quantum issues including fatal and catastrophic injuries, and injuries involving minors
  • representing clients in alternative dispute resolution processes, such as mediations and compulsory conferences.

Career highlights

Katherine's career highlights include:

  • successfully pursuing indemnities resulting in clients being extricated from claims and their costs reimbursed pre-litigation
  • assisting a principal contractor to develop their incident reporting and investigation procedures, which ultimately assisted with the defence of further personal injury claims by sub-contractor employees on the project and other large-scale construction projects
  • developing long-term relationships with large corporate clients and understanding their business operations to assist with managing their claims cost-effectively; and
  • forming part of an in-house legal team of one of Australia's largest insurers to assist with the review of a significant number of claims arising out of the South East Queensland floods in 2011. This included briefing hydrologists, providing advice in respect of policy coverage and notifying policy holders of decisions.
