Christie's practice has a particular focus on Queensland public sector employment.

Experience

Christie has advisory and litigation experience in workplace law, industrial matters, including enterprise bargaining, discrimination law, and discipline matters across both state and federal jurisdictions.

Christie has a strong background in Queensland public sector employment, having performed numerous secondments to Queensland government departments where she has led workplace law teams.

  • enterprise agreement and collective bargaining issues, including strategy and approval

  • discipline matters, including discipline processes under the Public Sector Act 2022 (QLD)

Career highlights

Christie's career highlights include:

  • acting for the State of Queensland in several contested arbitrations for replacement collective agreements
  • successfully obtaining orders to stop unprotected industrial action taken by teachers, and successfully defending the matter on appeal
  • successfully acting for the State in one of the first cases decided under the newly introduced stop-bullying provisions in the Industrial Relations Act 2016 (QLD)
  • advising on large scale industrial action taken by a large number of employees in the health system
  • successfully amending modern award coverage in the public sector to include a cohort of employees traditionally not included, including advising on terms and conditions of employment and award compliance
  • spending time on secondment to government departments to lead and develop workplace teams.
