Hugo is a lawyer in our Family & Relationship Law team. Prior to joining Lander & Rogers in 2023, Hugo practised in family law, commercial law, and estate planning. Hugo is based in the Melbourne office and represents clients living in Victoria and throughout Australia.
Hugo works across the spectrum of family law and is a measured and pragmatic practitioner. He approaches each matter with empathy, spending time with his clients to understand what is important to them and their families as they navigate the family law system. He advocates for clients in and out of court, with a preference for achieving negotiated solutions wherever possible.
Expertise
Hugo's areas of expertise include:
- de facto and matrimonial property settlements, including for clients with modest assets to high-net-worth clients with complex asset structure
- parenting disputes, including issues of parenting and family violence
- alternate dispute resolution methods, including round table discussions and mediations
- drafting binding financial agreements, including prenuptial style agreements
- child support matters, including drafting binding child support agreements
- divorce applications.
Career highlights
- Formalised property and child support arrangements for a client by way of a financial agreement and binding child support agreement without the need to issue court proceedings.
- Obtained a declaration of parentage in the Supreme Court in circumstances where the FCFCOA required such orders be made by a state court.
- Obtained final consent orders at the first return for a PPP550 matter for a very costs-conscious client. The client was referred to Lander & Rogers in late 2023 and their matter was settled by January 2024.
