Hugo Barry

Senior Associate

Hugo is a Senior Associate in our Family & Relationship Law team. Prior to joining Lander & Rogers in 2023, Hugo practised in family law, commercial law, and estate planning. He was named a finalist in the 2025 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards for his outstanding contribution to family law.

Hugo works across the spectrum of family law. His financial practice includes representing clients with modest assets through to ultra-high-net-worth individuals with intricate corporate structures. Hugo also has extensive experience with complex parenting cases, including those involving children with special needs, international and domestic relocation and family violence issues.

Hugo is known for his measured and pragmatic approach. He takes time to understand what matters most for his clients and their families as they navigate the family law system. He advocates for clients in and out of court, with a preference for achieving negotiated solutions wherever possible.

Experience

Hugo's areas of expertise include:

  • de facto and matrimonial property settlements, trust disputes, self-managed superannuation funds, valuation disputes and overseas assets
  • parenting disputes and family violence issues
  • threshold and jurisdiction issues, including whether a de facto relationship existed, whether court intervention is appropriate and whether to vary existing final orders
  • spousal maintenance disputes
  • drafting binding financial agreements, including prenuptial style agreements
  • child support, including binding child support agreements
  • divorce applications.
